What is Backlinks?

According to Wikipedia,

The number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page (for example, this is used by Google to determine the PageRank of a webpage). Outside of SEO, the backlinks of a webpage may be of significant personal, cultural or semantic interest: they indicate who is paying attention to that page.

Backlinks is not just an ordinary URL. Backlinks are links that visible to other site. That backlinks may lead to your site. It is called incoming links. Backlinks also help to increase the website traffic. It will also help to increase your PageRank. PageRank will help you to more visible to any search engine.
