You may believe that you are doing everything right with your site. You’ve taken the time to buy your Premium wordpress themes and to set them up so that they are running perfectly. You’ve chosen quality writers to help ensure that you have good content on your site that is clear and easy to understand. You even have some keywords that you want to use, and you know how the new SEO rules are going to work. It seems as though you’ve done everything that you need. Then you find that you just aren’t getting the visitors that you thought you would. What might the problem be?
Are Your Keywords the Problem?
As you know, keywords are still an important part of SEO, and there are many times when companies just don’t use the right keywords for their business. They believe that they have the best keywords, but they are missing the point. They take the keywords that they believe relate to their business and use them. It makes sense that these would be the correct keywords to use, right? The fact is that quite a few other businesses are probably using those same words and phrases, and that means that you are competing with an unfathomable number of websites.
Focusing Your Keywords
If you have a clothes store, for example, and you use the word “clothes” or even “shirts” as your keyword, consider how many other sites to which that word could apply. The word “clothes”, by the way, has more than 810 million results currently. Try competing with that! You will want to focus that keyword so that it hits your niche better. Look at what you are trying to promote and narrow your focus. If you sell themed shirts, such as zombie t-shirts, you could use that as a keyword. This will get the results to about 43 million, which is still a whopping number.
Keep narrowing so that you can have keywords dedicated solely to your niche and the products that you are selling. Using “funny zombie t-shirts for girls” gets you to under 10 million. Adding a color can lower it further. Even though there is still a lot of competition in the niche, you can see how using certain phrases will let you perform better. Using those phrases in your content on your site can help you improve your ranking. However, you have to make sure that the keywords and phrases that you use are things that people would actually type into the search engines. You don’t want the phrases to get too out of hand in terms of complexity!
